What's the Vibe? Letting it all out. Singing at the top of your lungs, losing yourself to find yourself
Tears for Fears is still insane. The sound. The lyrics. Everything about this is big. It seems in line with the way I experience life that I found them listening to a Relient K song. "In Love With the 80's" appropriately. They are a very 80's band. Synth, gratuitous saxophone (I maintain the decade forever curved saxophone in pop music), wild vocals, big guitar, and some drum machine. It's artsy and emotional, but in a clear and articulated way. New Wave that is digestable and mind boggling in equal measure. I often forget now that people are unfamiliar with Tears for Fears work. It makes this recommendation more important. I see so much of their work as paving the way for where we are with music now. Bands like this give context, while also standing the test of time.
This album starts with a bang! "Shout" is an ever valid expression. It's punch dancing your feelings out. It's scream at the sky frustration. Subtle rage at everything. It's also a banger of a track. "The Working Hour" comes with dissonance and saxophone. You can really get lost in the reverb soaked melody and vocals. "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" is the kinda car sing along song with convertible vibes. It's life. Acceptance. It is one of their top songs for a very god reason. "Mothers Talk" has this insane almost proto-breakcore sound. The frantic beat and shouty vocals are great and the instrumentals can make you lose yourself. "I Believe" is slower and almost serenading. It takes me to a haze filled room with too many lights and blinding heat. "Broken" takes us back to that insane evergy we dropped from "Mothers Talk." It then transitions into the magnificence of "Head Over Heels." It's got falsetto, a great hook, strings. It's love and insanity. Then we cap it all off with "Listen." It is actually one of my faves on the album now. Simply because it takes the time to explore the feeling of the sound it is making.
This is a huge album. It's important for me to stress that I would need an essay to fully explore all the ways that it is amazing. I just hope it finds you well. Maybe it will lead you to more exploration. Maybe it will change our life. I just know that it blows my mind. It certainly makes me want to let it all out.
