Cory Wong is someone with endless jam. His distinctive guitar playing speaks volumes whether it is on a Vulf album, adding to another artist, or here on his own album. A real professional playing the rounds and blessing us all with his playing. This really is motivational music. The sound is huge. It would be defying odds to not groove along with these tracks. The various featured artists on these tracks provide fantastic vocals. From start to finish this album drives the energy through.
This is amazing Funk & Jazz. There is Organ. Piano. Horns. Intricate drums. Wong's expressive guitar. "Limited World" is a power start right out of the gate. It takes that energy silly and serious right until we drive it "Home." Here we drop into a piano and guitar discussion. Like Jon Baptiste and Cory Wong are having a quality conversation with their instruments. We keep it heartfelt and drive back up with "Today I'm Gonna Get Myself a Real Job." It carries a sentiment I think many artists can relate to. I also love Wong singing on the track. "Starting Line" is a pump up jam that always gets me wanting to pursue things. Browning absolutely slays the vocals here. "Companion Pass" is a fun piece that evolves into what is truly one of the most motivational speeches I've ever heard as an artist and person. It's silly and fun, but also serious and beautiful. "Frogville" has a jam off the charts. Overall the tone is uplifting and the playing outstanding.
I found Wong though Vulfpeck, but he quickly became so much more. His guitar speaks in a fluid and communicative way. His interviews come across professional and genuine. This album is motivational and inspiring, but I think Wong channels that in all of his playing. I love the Jazz and Funk that he brings. Here is a joyful and soulful album. Driving you out and onwards to your dreams
