What an album this is. With 15 tracks and a rich sound; It quietly creeps back into my listening. I discovered it in the summer last year. "Shiver" drew itself across my mind and left a lasting impression. Understated and yet filled with power. The interplay of musical variance and lyrical beauty create a unique sound. This is the type of album that speaks to me on an emotional and yet mental level. I can feel places. The scent in a warm summer day. The way clouds shade out everything on a grey day. It speaks of situations and understandings. Of leaving. Of Loving and the problems that carries. I can't fully decide what this album means to me. I know the songs are good. I know it feels deeply. But, maybe the most favored music is a little enigmatic. Hopefully you will find it as pleasing. Maybe you will also find the real meaning that seems to elude me.
Each song is a sort of self contained exploration of feeling and rich composition. "Red lines" Starts us strong with simple drums and guitar before building and settling like a mountain range. This really characterizes the whole album. Incredible dynamics. "Shiver" strikes me again and again. Here you can see what I like about rhythm on this album. It has a moving and evolving structure. "Bikes" has a lovely feeling to it. Great vocals and somehow the musical feel captures the title of the song. "Don't You Worry" has a deep emotion and I can get lost in the musical cadence. These songs all are consistent. There is magically perfect electric guitar. Keys where they need to be. Vocals that pierce the soul in a legible and communicative way. Under it all it this foundational rhythm and tempo that makes each song a real composition. To fully discuss the songs on this album is far beyond the limits of even a thorough review. I encourage you to explore them deeply if you feel struck to like I often am.
This was an odd album to write about. I've written about ones I treasure more. Ones that are probably better in some ways. Somehow words failed to describe much of it adequately. Maybe the best thing a piece of art can do it precisely that. Like when a painting would describe a waterfall of words to even remotely tell someone what you were looking at. It is best to go to the source.
