Do you need the remedy? Because French 79 has one. French 79 AKA Simon Henner is a force of French Electronic music to ber reckoned with. With levels of Kreftwerk influence and inspiring synth textures, to sick beats, this feels like a great modern electropop album. I don't recall exactly where I stumbled into it, but "Hometown" dropped into my path one evening. Now this album regularly comes to my rescue. It feels quiet and powerful. Jammy with great beats and relaxing with lush soundscapes.
I have distinct favorites on this album. All the tracks are great mind you. But, some really stand out to me. The ones that I remember and never fail me. "The Remedy" is a great introduction. That throbbing entrance of synth then being joined by an impeccable drum track. Then top ot all off with the whispered vocals and side swiping synth lines. It's a basic recipe of much of this album and artist's work. "Hold on" Strikes me as a more dancy track. Great forward motion and astounding use of the sparse lyrics to form the track. "Code Zero" is a fun track that builds in a way that is probably familiar to anyone that has ever made electronic music. It also has a fun music video that follows that feeling. "Hometown" is the hero of this album to me. Best watched with its enigmatic music video. It never fails to stir my emotions. The rhythm is powerful. The feeling of the bass and synth pads overwhelming in the best sense of the word. A real 10/10 piece to me. "Quartz" and "4807" feel like they belong together. A pair of powerful dance beats without lyrics. "4807" in particular has a drop in it that I can always really get into.
I will always feel like I came to more electronic fuelled genres late, but this album always served to bring me up to speed. It feels modern. With fresh ideas and production. I also like that I can see the nods to genre tropes. I can see where it is drawing on influences. Most of all I love how good it is in pieces or as a whole. I hope this can give others and appreciation for the genre like it did for me. I find these songs extremely moving in both emotional and bodily manners. So go ahead and get the remedy.
